Tom Jones, de 'Sex Bomb' al gospel
"Este es el nuevo disco de Tom Jones, Praise and Blame, y se trata de un disco producido por el genio Ethan Johns, al que antes se encomendaron artistas como Rufus Wainwright, Kings of Leon o Laura Marling.
En su nuevo trabajo predominan las baladas gospel con tintes góticos y tonadas rockabilly, que nada tienen que ver con los relajados sonidos de sus trabajos más populares.
El álbum ha despertado los recelos de los ejecutivos de su discográfica, que lo ha descrito como "una broma de mal gusto" y ha dicho que le daba la impresión de "estar tirando el dinero" con su producción.
Esta no es la primera vez que Jones ha buscado en las raíces musicales. Lo cierto es que en un intento por revitalizar su carrera, sacó una serie de discos country durante la década de 1980, pero no lograron el éxito comercial de años anteriores.
Comparado con esos discos, Praise and Blame, es bastante libre y Jones señaló que probó su voz en tonos musicales distintos para descubrir cómo sonaba más natural.
El cantante, que ha sido definido en numerosas ocasiones como un Don Juan, ha experimentado un gran cambio en su trayectoria profesional.
Ha cambiado las canciones pegadizas que le otorgaron una segunda juventud por cantos espirituales que ensalzan su voz. Y es que los años pasan para todos, no hay más que ver que el cantante ya no se tiñe el pelo y ha lucido sus cabellos blancos en sus últimas actuaciones".
