Receta de Champiñones al Ajillo

Receta de Champiñones al Ajillo

Imagen

No olvides salarlos.

Biography:
------------
Honeybrowne has made its mark on the Texas music scene and beyond by going song by song, gig by gig, album by album and Mile By Mile, as the title of the band’s latest CD declares. Singer, songwriter and group leader Fred Andrews and his musical compadres come by their sound and success honestly, drawing from a rich palette of inspirations and then going out and road-testing the music they create to ensure that it makes a genuine connection with music-loving listeners. Combining good ole hard work with a vibrant love for the magic of music, Honeybrowne keep their eyes on the prize of being better and better each time out.

So how does the band follow “this year’s first must-hear,” as Entertainment News & Views said of their last release, the aptly titled Something To Believe In? Answer: With a new album that enriches and expands the Honeybrowne sound on a set of even stronger songs that are bound to travel with you Mile By Mile for years to come.

Co-produced by Andrews and Austin recording whiz Mark Addison (who produced Something To Believe In), the album is Honeybrowne’s most vital and varied yet. It boasts everything from expansive country-rock anthems like the title song and “Love Wanted” to the twangy trot of “Bowling Green” and the bluegrass-flavored “Line Sinker and Hook.” Andrews and drummer Stephen Bres celebrate their recent new fatherhood on the CD’s most touching number, “Personal Lullaby,” which they co-wrote. But happy family man Andrews also shows that he hardly forgets how heartache feels on “Yesterday’s News,” “Left Me A Mess” and “Trouble’s Got a Thing For Me.” From the opening plea of “Help Me Find My Way” to the closing two-step romp “Put That Ring Back On Your Finger,” Mile By Mile lands right within the musical sweet spot where country, rock and pop meet.

Mile By Mile brings a studio sound richness and live show presence and immediacy to the listener’s living room — or car, truck, iPod or MP3 player, anywhere you play it — because it was actually recorded in Andrews’s living room. As the band recorded song demos there, he so loved the sound they got that he suggested to Addison that they track the album with the band at his house. “We went at it for four days and came out with a wonderful sounding record with a great vibe,” enthuses Andrews. “I don’t think we could have made it sound that good in the studio. It’s the best sounding record we’ve done.”

It’s also the most collaborative, with Honeybrowne guitarist Josh Owen and drummer Bres — since departed to attend law school — contribute to the songwriting and longtime bassist Jake Blackwell carries on in his band role as MVP on the sessions as well as the road. Andrews continues his fruitful song collaborations with Addison and David Neuhauser and also pens a number with Nashville country-rock rabble-rouser Trent Summar. “I don’t wanna write a song that could be great and have it be anything less than it should,” says Andrews of his enjoyment of co-writing songs.

To get to the core of Fred Andrews and his songwriting, Texas is indeed where to begin, in the town of Victoria, to be exact, where Andrews was born and spent his early years. In the Lone Star tradition, music was loved and played around the home: His father plays guitar and piano, his mother is also a pianist and plays violin, and his grandfather was handy with the mandolin, violin and banjo. Andrews played drums from age three, later took a few piano lessons and finally settled on the guitar.

Andrews was raised square within the Texas musical tradition, but his Chicago bred father also instilled in his son his love of respected pop masters like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Billy Joel and others. Then Fred later found his own favorites like The Replacements, R.E.M and U2. “I think my songwriting reflects a combination of my Texas music heroes and all the other stuff I listen to,” he explains.

Teen years in Charleston, West Virginia also expended Andrews’s musical horizons, in good part thanks to the syndicated NPR concert show “Mountain Stage” based there, which exposed Andrews at its tapings to the crème de la crème of singer-songwriters as well the coolest alterative acts of the day.

“I always liked music a lot more than anyone else I knew,” says Andrews, who finally took up the guitar in his early college years at West Virginia University and started getting serious about playing, singing and writing songs while finishing school at Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University). “I really didn’t know how to play other people’s music so much, so I made up my own. I thought songwriting was really fun.”

A gathering of friends onstage at a local bar started out as “just playing, drinking, having a good time and singing all the songs we knew and ones we made up as we went along,” Andrews recalls. “Then all our friends showed up and then all of their friends showed up. We would draw 500 to 600 people every Tuesday and packed the place for a year.”

When the ad hoc group landed the opening slot at a campus concert by then Texas favorites Jackopierce, they needed a band name and grabbed Honeybrowne from a beer coaster as their handle. By the time Andrews graduated he gathered his first serious core of players — including his college pal, bassist Shade Deggs, now with Columbia recording artists Cole Deggs & The Lonesome — and stepped out into the thriving Texas live music scene.

Debuting on CD in 2001 with Finding Shade, produced by former Loggins & Messina drummer Merel Bregante, Honeybrowne picked up airplay out of the box with “Texas Angel” and “Deeper Shade of Blue” on Houston’s KIKK and other Texas stations. A live album tracked at the famed Satellite Lounge in Houston followed and then another studio disc, 2003’s Good For Nuthin’, consolidated the band’s stature as rising stars with their own sound within the booming Texas music movement.

“I’ve been making my living with music since about 2001,” Andrews notes. “I may not be driving a Porsche, but I sure am enjoying it. It’s a great day job and night job.

“I think a lot of bands do their learning in garages or the rehearsal hall,” he continues. “I’ve done a lot mine by getting out there and playing for people.”

Code:
[img]http://img163.imageshack.us/img16[/img]

The wisdom of his chosen path paid off when Andrews hooked up with noted Austin producer, songwriter and artist-in-his-own-right Mark Addison and came up with the band’s most definitive statement yet in 2006 on Something To Believe In. Harp magazine noted how “their tunes sport more hooks than a fisherman’s hat” and praised Andrews as “a master of witty wordplay and pithy turns of phrase, with a winning ability to wring real emotion out of a lyric.” All Music Guide invoked names like The Mavericks and Steve Earle in its review of the CD, also likening Andrews’s vocals to masterful singer Chris Isaak. Now on Mile By Mile, Honeybrowne and Addison take the music to yet another higher and more engaging level.

Although Andrews earned himself a pole vault scholarship to college, as a musician he has shifted strides to become a long-distance runner. “I feel like I have a long way to go and that I’m making progress, and I love it,” he explains. “I feel like I’m learning so much with every song I write and every album I make, and that I’m singing better and playing guitar better.

“We’re not trying to get a record deal from Nashville, we’re not trying to have a big entourage and big bus, though those are neat things. I never wanted to be major label act playing arenas with a 10-piece band. I’d love to instead have something like John Hiatt’s career. If that were ever bestowed on me, I would feel like I’d lived 100 lives,” Andrews says.

“We’re just trying to keep it real and all about what we got into it for,” he adds. “The whole theme is to keep it real, keep it basic, keep it on the road. And to keep improving and perfecting what we do. I’ve done it my way, the only way I can and know how. No one gave me a book. I’ve learned so much more doing it this way than having someone steer me.”

And ultimately, Andrews admits, “I’m a lifer. I’m now 12 years into it and I’m still into it, step by step.” And Mile By Mile, making music that travels the distance from Texas to the rest of the world.

INTRODUCTION:
-------------
The Whoreshoes was an all-female, honky tonk/bluegrass/country band based in the San Francisco Bay area. The group's name is primarily a pun based on horseshoes. They have played internationally in countries such as Belgium and The Netherlands. In addition they performed at the 2007 Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival is San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. On 12 February 2009 they gave their final show and have since gone their separate ways.

They like whiskey, particularly Jameson or American Bourbon. Insiders tip: the more whiskey they are given, the longer they play.

The Whoreshoes main influences include country legends Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, The Carter Family, Stanley Brothers, Louvin Brothers, Doc Boggs, and alternative country acts such as Hank III, Meat Purveyors, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Lucinda Williams.

Biography:
------------
The Whoreshoes are Camilla Lincoln, Diana Greenburg, Emily Stucky, Joni Rueter and Lala Hulse. Founded in 2004 in the SF Bay Area, they came from varied backgrounds of music, but their mutual love for the time-honored songs of American old-time music and early honky-tonk country brought them together, with influences ranging from Charlie Daniels to Trailer Bride. Multi-instrumentalism is a trademark of the band: banjo, fiddle, guitar, upright bass, lap steel, dobro, mandolin, ukulele, honky-tonk piano, accordion, washboard and even spoons are featured in their music. They've self-released two cd's with an ever-greater emphasis on original tunes and have toured the west coast of the US, Belgium and Holland.

Imagen

Famed Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard once said, “Country music is three chords and the truth”. The Whoreshoes, an up-and-coming country music band, would agree. This energetic female quintet, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, scorns "contemporary country” and celebrates the roots of country music.

Imagen

The truth is in their contagious brand of traditional-with-a-twist California country music. In just two years, The Whoreshoes have covered substantial territory. Highlights include: performing at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, climbing the peaks of the Sierras to the Sugarbowl Music Festival in Lake Tahoe, travelling to the balmy beach bars of Southern California and most recently touring Belgium and Holland; along the way, sharing stages with the popular Old Crow Medicine Show and the legendary Wanda Jackson.

But it is their tireless “tours” of local bars and farmers’ markets that helped shape their impressive new CD, entitled “Get Lucky.” These hard-working women know how to make a big time, anywhere and everywhere.

Camilla, Joni, Lala, Emily and Diana come from varied backgrounds of music, but their mutual love for the time-honored songs of American old-time music and early honky-tonk country brings them together. Multi-instrumentalism is a trademark of the band: banjo, fiddle, guitar, lap steel, mandolin, ukulele, honky-tonk piano, accordion, washboard and spoons are all featured in their music. Added with their sweet harmonies, and infectious original tunes, The Whoreshoes evoke the best of a bygone era and bring that boot stomping, hollering spirit direct to you!

Imagen

Reviews:
---------------
The meat and potatoes of the Whoreshoes' musical mission is first and foremost to have a good time. Second, it's to deal sternly with anyone who dares call them contemporary country. (San Francisco Chronicle)

A truer Americana-folk sound would be hard to find. You can practically smell the washtub and taste the corncob pipe. Every song is a toe-tapper; every one makes you long for simpler days, a hound dog, a porch rocker and a fat jug of moonshine to blow along. (Alameda Music Scene)

This all-female quintet from San Francisco has a lot more than a marvelously clever band name going for them. As their second record, Get Lucky, proves, The Whoreshoes represent a kind of real country music for the 21st century, traditional in sound while novel in concept. These five women play fourteen instruments in numerous country styles with one mission — to twang you hard and well. (Realcountrymusic.org)

Spoiler:

CHRIS HILLMAN
"...Con Stephen aprendí mucho acerca de como componer una canción. Era un visionario, un artesano de las melodías, alguien por cuyo interior fluían las sonoridades más variadas y fascinantes y que sólo él sabía como ordenarlas, como mezclarlas correctamente para dar forma a canciones tan apasionantes como las condensadas en ese disco (Manassas, primer álbum). Es alguien a quien admiro como compositor y al que le sigo teniendo una gran estima."

INTRODUCTION:
-------------
The Sum of No Evil is the tenth studio album by progressive rock artists The Flower Kings. It features the return of drummer Zoltan Csörsz.

The Flower Kings are a Swedish progressive rock group. Formed in August 1994 by veteran guitarist Roine Stolt as a touring band to support his solo album The Flower King, the band stayed together after the tour and have gone on to become one of the most prolific studio recording units in rock music of their era. In thirteen years they released nearly 18 hours of music. Their music is similar to early symphonic progressive rock groups such as Yes, marked by sharp dynamic changes, polyrhythmics, heavy bass, vocal harmonies, abstract and occasionally nonsensical lyrics, and extended song lengths.

Review:
---------------
Legendary progressive, iconic, symphonic rockband "The Flower Kings", formed in 1995 by guitarist, singer, composer Roine Stolt ( Transatlantic ), announce their immediate return to service in 2012, after an almost 5 years well earned hiatus.
The band consisting of Roine Stolt, bassplayer extraordinaire Jonas Reingold, keyboarder grand deluxe Tomas Bodin, singer & guitarist Hasse Froberg and new 26 year old Berliner dextrous drummer prodigy Felix Lehrmann, started the recording of a new album at Varispeed studios in Sweden on January 23rd.
The music is recorded in classic 70's style, with all musicians performing live in a room thru 70's vintage tube recording equipment and famous NEVE consoles.
If all Gods and muses are onboard the new TFK is scheduled for an album release on June 6th on the Inside Out Music label (Century Media/EMI).
The yet unnamed album has a 23 min epic centerpiece and the material is all classic Flowerkings style with all the dreamy melodic & cinematic elements that the bands fans has come to love over the years, but also contain some heavier psychedelic music and some darker hi energy material.

Every new album from The Flower Kings may be misleading at first, as Roine Stolt always writes songs that reveal themselves upon repeat listenings. The Sum of No Evil proceeds in a similar style, exhibiting detailed arrangements that one may not notice right away. With the great Zoltan Csorsz back on drums, the unit's unbreakable rhythm battery is as strong as ever. Not that the previous album Paradox Hotel was a failure or anything, but it's a given that most Flower Kings fans would prefer Csorsz over most drummers.

Stolt has explained that this album would be a return-to-the-roots effort, as they had removed themselves from jazz and pop as much as possible. This is true to a certain extent; The Sum of No Evil contains fewer pop parts, but with the inclusion of Csorsz who has always been associated with the norms of jazzy playing, it would be unthinkable for the band to delve into some fusion-laden sections. This is particularly audible on the monster track "Love is the Only Answer" which sharply contrasts the opener "One More Time", a vintage prog rock piece filled with a strong rhythmic angle, warm guitar melodies, and Retropolis-like synth patches. The analogue vibe is more effective than before, which could be attributed to the fact that they recorded the album on 70's vintage recording equipment.

"Love is the Only Answer", on the other hand, is just shy of the 25-minute mark. This one contains lots of theatrical vocals by Roine Stolt, where he moves from laidback soft sung parts to more aggressive sections in order to portray the necessary mood. The heavier passages are often underpinned by squealing keyboards and tense instrumental breaks; this is also where the transition into a jazzier space becomes inevitable. Thanks to Reingold's fretless bass guitar, Bodin's spacey synth fizzles, and Csorsz' eloquent rhythm punctuation, the band put their ear for delicate improvisation on display. Bodin's solo where he extrapolates all kinds of synth tones is simply fascinating and forms the precursor to the two guitarists' wonderful guitar cascades.

Though not a lengthy piece, the album's standout song for me is "Trading My Soul", which somewhat belies Stolt's argument that The Sum of No Evil is a pure prog rock statement. The darkness factor that comes to the fore on this ballad is right up there with the Gildenlow-sung Adam & Eve material, or the much-overlooked "Bavarian Skies" off of the previous album. It is rather interesting to hear all these "Flower Kings never experiment much" arguments, and when they do, putting out material in the vein of "Trading My Soul", their core fan base gets annoyed. Complete with lots of Hammond and Moog sounds, some manipulated vocal arrangements, and exquisite synth flights, the dynamic quality of the song is achieved through plenty of rhythmic variations. It's an excellent track with a dark, menacing atmosphere and a rousing chorus. The guitar work on the title track is the best on CD, dominated by bluesy voicings and almost shred-instensive expression.

The instrumental "Flight 999 Brimstone Air" is a bit in the style of "Trading My Soul", featuring Tomas Bodin's Zappa-meets-Crimson style, bringing in elements of avant-garde fusion. This is a very intense track, and one of the best Flower Kings instrumentals. There is a great drum solo by Zoltan Csorsz which is a big plus given his quite restraint playing through the course of most of the album.

The special edition of the album contains some bonus tracks and a making-of video, so be sure to check it out if you're a big fan of the band. So far, this is one of the most essential prog rock releases of the year.
